Love is the greatest commandment of God because when we learn to love like God we are being transformed in the image and likeness of unconditional love. God is unconditional love. All of God’s people need to experience His unconditional love to heal their heart from past, present and future hurts. In order for you and I to effectively love God, we must do it with all that we are (Mark 12:28-30). When we love God with all that we are, we will walk out His love in our life because we are filled with His love in us. Our walk with Christ is our journey of faith, where we walk by faith and not by sight.
When we walk with Christ, we walk with God and come to know Him through experiencing Him in fellowship through relationship. Our walk with Christ has to be an everyday occurrence for the rest of our life because our life is not our own. It was given to us so we can give Christ to a perishing world starting with giving our soul to Him. This makes our lifestyle our real ministry. Our lifestyle is all about how we love God and how we love people. Real ministry is about being in relationship and fellowship with God and allowing God to show you and I how to be in relationship and fellowship with people. Real and authentic ministry provides intimacy that bonds people to Christ and the Christ in each other through relationship and fellowship.
The disciples shared in Jesus journey of faith as He taught them the living word of God. He ate with them, talked with them and served them. He invited the disciples to be in relationship with Him by sharing His lifestyle with them. When we encounter the living and powerful word of God it is very real and authentic because it heals the issues of our heart, making us new in Christ. Hebrews 4:12 says, “The word is living and powerful sharper than a two edge sword dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. God loves us where we are with no condemnation. When we are able to love people where they are without condemning them for their shortcomings, we are providing real and authentic ministry.
This real and authentic ministry happens because we have become real and authentic in the image and likeness of Christ. Philippians 2:5 tells us, let this mind be in you that is also in Christ Jesus. Real ministry heals the mind, soul, spirit and body of our whole person where we need to experience real and authentic ministry the most, our heart. Every time we experience real and authentic ministry, healing occurs in our heart. Whether that healing is spiritual, emotional, intellectual or physical, it will make you and I whole. Christ said He came to give us abundant life in John 10:10. An abundant life is a healed life that is a whole life in Christ. Real and authentic ministry is the most powerful lifestyle of faith because it heals people’s heart from a lack of God’s presence. Sometimes people know they are loved by God, but they also want to know they are loved by God’s people who are here to be witnesses of His love.
The more intentional you and I are in allowing God to transform our mind, spirit, soul and body, the real and authentic ministry of the Holy Spirit, becomes our real and authentic lifestyle. Real and authentic ministry is the most powerful because it heals people’s heart from hurt and sin, as it reassures them they are loved and cared for by God as well as God’s people. When we learn to love people like Christ loved us, they will allow us into areas of their heart they have learned to close off to God and the God in people. When hurting people open their heart they will allow us to lead their heart to Christ and come to know and experience Christ for their self.
Jesus left us this commandment in Mark 12:28-30, which reads like this, Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, “Which is the first commandment of all?” Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.”
